Autism is known as a complex neurodevelopmental disorder. Autism and Autism Spectrum Disorder or ASD, are often used interchangeably. The conditions or disorders identified on the autism spectrum, are the result of a neurological disorder that has an effect on normal brain function, affecting development of the person's communication and social interaction skills. The disorder can impair one’s ability to communicate and interact with others. It can also cause significant impairment in social, occupational and other areas of functioning. It characteristically affects one’s response to physical contact and loud noises, smells and light.
